"You can't be what you can't see" - Marian Wright Edelman

In 2018, I co-founded the Women in the House program at Toronto Metropolitan University with Peggy Nash.

The goals of this experiential learning program are to develop students' professional skills and to provide them with networking opportunities with women leaders from different sectors (e.g. labour, activist and elected official). The program is multi-partisan and available to upper-level undergraduate and MA-level students who identify as women or gender-diverse from across the university.

Program activities vary every year. In the past, students have visited Queen's Park and met with the Speaker and women MPPs from each political caucus, shadowed a woman Minister or MP in Ottawa or virtually, attended Question Period at Queen's Park and the House of Commons, and met with women Senators, labour leaders, political candidates, and Parliament Hill journalists. As part of their course work, students prepare policy briefs for Members of Parliament on a topic of shared interest.
